Persuasive Writing

As I plan begin to plan a unit in persuasive writing, several questions come to mind. How will I help my students understand the purpose of persuasive writing? How will I engage my students so there is motivation to write and most importantly how do I reach those who simply refuse to write? Most questions lead to  more questions. Most people want to be able to influence others. It's a rewarding feeling. Kids in particular relate to the powers of super heroes. I think I will begin with a discussion on super hero powers. Then they will launch on a mission of their own where they have the ability to persuade adults to do what they want.
The first mission:
Introduction to the paper: Write a brief paragraph stating three powerful reasons the adult will want to obey the child.
I'm on the verge of a great idea, but I feel it going mundane again. Let's see......Students are trapped in an underwater cave with a villain who wants to rid the world of kids. They must convince the villain why he should abandon this evil course.
or maybe.......
Students want to go on the greatest field trip in the world. It will take their super powers to control the mind of the teacher and principal by persuading them to allow the field trip.
or maybe....
The student has just been selected as kid counsel to the president. You have the power as a kid to change anything about America but you must convince the president of it's worth.
